Our History
The establishment of PERSATUAN ALUMNI UiTM Sabah marks a significant chapter in the journey of UiTM alumni in Sabah. The foundation for this association was laid in 1997 when the Honorable YB Datuk Masidi Hj Manjun, a distinguished UiTM alumnus and then Chairman of the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), voiced his aspiration to revive an alumni association. His vision aimed to create a structured platform for graduates to gather under one umbrella and contribute back to their alma mater through service and support.
The roots of this movement trace back to earlier alumni organizations such as the EX-MIT (Association of Former Students of MARA Institute of Technology) and MITGAS (MARA Institute of Technology Graduate Association). These groups were pioneered by notable alumni, including members of the first cohort of Yayasan Sabah-Institut Teknologi MARA (YS-ITM) students, affectionately known as the “Old Boys of YS-ITM 1973.” However, over time, these organizations became inactive due to evolving circumstances.

To reignite the spirit of alumni collaboration, a group of committed graduates formed a Pro-Tem Committee in 1997 to undertake all necessary measures to establish a new alumni association for UiTM Sabah.
By early 1998, after resolving technical issues with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) concerning prior alumni associations, the committee submitted a fresh application. In 1999, their efforts bore fruit when PERSATUAN ALUMNI UiTM Sabah was officially registered.
The association’s first Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held in the same year, where YB Datuk Masidi Hj Manjun was unanimously elected as the inaugural president. This event marked the beginning of a new era for the association, which has since grown into an active and impactful organization.
