The Regional Financial Summit Sabah 2025 marks its inaugural edition and aspires to become an annual cornerstone event in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Spearheaded by the Faculty of Business and Management, UiTM Cawangan Sabah, in collaboration with Persatuan ALUMNi UiTM Cawangan Sabah, the summit aims to promote critical discussions on pressing financial issues.
The event brings together higher education institutions across Kota Kinabalu, serving as a dynamic platform for academia, industry leaders, and policymakers to exchange insights and strategies.
Under the theme “Combating Financial Crime: The Power of Collective Responsibility,” the summit features esteemed speakers from key institutions including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), RHB Investment Bank, and Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad (PHB), reinforcing a shared commitment to integrity and ethical financial governance.
The summit was led by Ms. Bridget, an alumna of UiTM, who returned to her alma mater to share her experience after 35 years in the banking industry prior to her retirement. Her presence and insights inspired participants and underscored the importance of alumni engagement.
Speakers’ Insight:
1. RHB Investment Bank – Mr. Khairullah Badrul Hisham emphasized the importance of distinguishing information shared by TikTok influencers from that provided by licensed investment advisers. He stressed that licensed advisers offer more credible and reliable information for making sound investment decisions, urging participants to exercise discernment and caution.
2. Pelaburan Harta Berhad (PHB) – Mr. Muhammad Zikri Kamardin emphasized that combating financial crime requires not only robust institutional frameworks but also active participation from all stakeholders, including students, alumni, and the broader community. He encouraged students to adopt integrity and responsibility as foundational values for their future careers in finance and business.
Mr. Mohamad Damsal Awang Damit, the CEO, attended the seminar, demonstrating PHB’s full support for the event.
3. The Malaysia Royal Police (PDRM) – nspector Yap Kean Leong addressed the growing threat of scammers, advising students to remain vigilant and avoid being swayed by empty promises. He highlighted common scam tactics and urged students to always verify information before making financial decisions.

Additionally, the summit also featured interesting exhibitors from the Narcotics Department of PDRM, the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), RHB Bank, Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad (PHB), as well as Pusat Waqaf and Pusat Zakat from MUIS. The State Director of the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), one of the main sponsors of the summit, Mohd Arif bin Hamzah, urged ALUMNi to reinforce the summit’s theme by advocating for proactive awareness and collective responsibility to safeguard personal and public financial interests, as well as the wider community.
This summit stands as a testament to Persatuan ALUMNi UiTM Sabah and UiTM’s commitment to fostering meaningful and impactful collaboration between alumni and academia, while benefiting both students and the community.
